  1. Early validation of the high level program plan – this is the priority for the all-important Transition Phase, and could involve any existing team personnel as well as new people, to ensure that the plan is based on best practice, is comprehensive in its breadth and depth and is achievable;

  2. Tackling assumptions and dependencies head on – in order to validate any high level plan, we all have to make assumptions and rely on dependencies which need validation and review. We always look to make assumptions and dependencies practical and achievable, and reserve use of the Change Control process only where workarounds and resolution cannot be achieved;

  3. Promoting early visibility of gaps, problems, issues – to keep deliveries on track, issues must be identified and resolved early, to mitigate any impacts on our ability to progress at pace;

  4. Building strong relationships with customers, delivery teams and 3rd party personnel relies on  pragmatic and collaborative behaviours.  We build communities â€“ frequently, formally and informally.

  5. Get the Governance and comms right – across all peoples â€“ 3rd parties, internal customers etc.

  6. Understand any TOM and the transition approaches - Seek early engagement and ongoing involvement from any Live Services teams.

  7. Production of a service transition plan for each stage/supplier project and undertaking a Service Readiness review for any project, service or system, as a go/no go prior to handover and transition;

  8. Up-skilling of in-life service staff where handover is required.

  9. Governance through collaboration and influence – if you don't have the contractual levers with the supply chains then its competence and gravitas, shared information - designs, plans, RAIDs, what do their change procedures, SLA’s, delay profiles etc. look like?
